Resident FAQs
What are the benefits for me?
The Cozy offers several benefits, including improved energy efficiency and enhanced comfort through better heat distribution. For the first time, you’ll have control over the heat in your apartment.
Will property management control my heat
You are in charge of your Cozy, and property management will be notified if there is a malfunction with your Cozy or radiator.
Will I be able to adjust the valves of the radiator to control the heat like I have in the past?
With the Cozy in place, you will no longer need access to radiator valves. The Cozy ensures proper heat distribution without the need for additional measures.
How much electricity does the Cozy use?
The Cozy uses a minimal amount of energy, similar to that of an LED lightbulb.
Can I get my covers in a different color?
The Cozy comes in white, however, it can be painted. To do so, make sure to clean and prime the Cozy to avoid peeling. Please avoid painting over the sensors.
How do I clean it?
You can use a mild cleaning agent along with water to clean your Cozy.
Can I place plants on top of the cover?
Placing plants on top of the Cozy is safe since the Cozy is well insulated.
Owner FAQs
How does Cozy systems save energy?
The Cozy saves energy by trapping heat inside the radiators when a room reaches its desired temperature. By trapping the heat inside the radiator, it forces excess steam created by the boiler to distribute to other parts of the building that are normally under-heated.
The Cozy also transmits temperature data to the central boiler control unit, which operates only when needed based on real-time room temperature information. As a result, the Cozy system reduces the amount of energy needed to comfortably heat the building, leading to greater comfort, lower heating costs, and avoidance of any local carbon penalty laws.
Do Kelvin products qualify for incentives and tax credits?
Yes, the Cozy is available for ConEd and National Grid incentives in New York, as well as incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act. The Cozy is specifically listed in the New York State Technical Resource Manual.
What kind of heating system does the Cozy work on?
The Cozy system works on a variety of radiator-based systems, including one-pipe steam, two-pipe steam, Metro Steam, and hydronic (hot water) systems. By providing precise room-level heat control, the Cozy improves energy efficiency and comfort in buildings with these legacy heating systems, regardless of the specific radiator technology used.
Are the Cozy and Adaptive Electrification both offered for no-money down?
Yes, Kelvin provides a no-money down subscription so customers have instant energy savings. The Kelvin subscription is a fixed price per month per apartment for the duration of the subscription. During the subscription period, Kelvin provides maintenance, dashboard access to data and alerts, and carbon and cost savings.
